The Kids Safe Harbor Program
In a landscape where educational opportunities are a mosaic of disparity, PSM Charity has initiated the Kids Safe Harbor Program, a sanctuary that currently nurtures and empowers 516 children. By intertwining care and opportunity, we aim to rewrite futures and foster environments where every child and woman can thrive.
About the Kids Safe Harbor Program
A glance at Uganda's 2014 population census unveils a compelling need for proactive support. While 58% of the population aged 6 years and above have achieved primary education, a concerning 12.5% of children aged 6-12 remain out of school, and 8% of children under 18 are orphaned.
Our Impact and Approach
PSM Charity's Kids Safe Harbor Program is crafted to pivot these narratives towards hope and progress. Currently, our program is a haven to 516 children, each with dreams and potentials waiting to be unearthed.
Education and Opportunity: We delve into the heart of communities, ensuring that every child has access to quality education. Our efforts resonate in the classrooms where we bridge gaps, ensuring that no child is left behind.
Nurturing Families: Understanding the symbiotic relationship between a child's progress and a mother's well-being, we extend our support to women. By creating opportunities for them to provide necessities such as food, clothing, and household items, we plant seeds for stable and flourishing futures.
Holistic Development: Our approach transcends traditional boundaries. The Kids Safe Harbor Program is not just a space but a sanctuary where children find guidance, support, and the necessary tools to navigate through life.
In our Kids Safe Harbor Program, we embrace and nurture children from diverse backgrounds, each with unique needs and circumstances. Due to limited resources, we have established three distinct categories within our Kids Safe Harbor Program, each representing a pillar of support and care.
Guardians of Tomorrow | This category encompasses the 20 children who are complete orphans, devoid of any familial support. Within our sanctuary, we become their family, providing round-the-clock care, love, and guidance. These children find solace and stability in our embrace, as we strive to fulfill their every need and nurture their dreams for a brighter future.
Family Ties | Our program offers a termly residency arrangement for the 100 children who have relatives. During term time, they live with us, benefiting from our comprehensive support system. During holidays, we extend our care to their families, providing them with essential support while ensuring these children remain connected to their roots and familial bonds.
Daily Guardianship | Among our beneficiaries are 396 children who come from home daily. Despite their limited resources, these children trust us to provide them with a nurturing environment where they can thrive. We offer them daily meals, educational materials, access to quality education, and comprehensive healthcare services. Through our unwavering support, we aim to uplift and empower these children, regardless of their daily challenges, while also empowering their single mothers to support them at home.
Through our Kids Safe Harbor Program, we strive to be a beacon of hope for every child, offering them sanctuary, support, and the opportunity to realize their full potential. With each category representing a crucial aspect of our commitment to child welfare, we stand firm in our dedication to nurturing hope and fostering a brighter tomorrow for all.

In the next two years, we aim to expand our reach to support 10,000 children. Looking further ahead, within five years, we plan to double our efforts to support 20,000 children. A Beacon of Hope || Transforming Lives and Restoring Vision
In the heart of the Luwero district, two sisters, Lataru Juliet (14) and Ekoni Phoebe (12), have been bravely navigating life despite being born with visual and hearing impairments. Their resilience is a testament to the human spirit, living each day with hope in the face of adversity.
Raised by a courageous single mother who strives to provide for her daughters after their father abandoned them due to their disabilities, the family's situation is poignant. The challenges of daily survival, compounded by the devastating impacts of the COVID-19 lockdown in Uganda, left them teetering on the brink of desperation.
This vulnerable family's plight came to light when a compassionate citizen reached out to PSM Charity through our YouTube channel, seeking support for Juliet, Phoebe, and their devoted mother, who were grappling with starvation.
PSM Charity, driven by a mission to uplift and empower, promptly visited the family. We provided immediate relief in the form of food and essential supplies, ensuring their urgent needs were met and alleviating their immediate distress.
Determined to explore every avenue to enhance the lives of Juliet and Phoebe, PSM Charity facilitated a medical consultation at Mengo Hospital.
The professional assessment underscored the need for specialized treatment abroad, opening up the possibility of corrective surgeries for the sisters.

In the communities we serve, young girls, some as tender as 12 years old, find themselves grappling with the abrupt end of their education due to early pregnancies. Often ostracized by their families and abandoned by those responsible, these young mothers seek refuge in makeshift shelters, facing the harrowing challenges of hunger, insecurity, and uncertainty about their futures. Without intervention, both mother and child are at risk of being marginalized, perpetuating a cycle of poverty and hardship.
The Youthful Moms, Resilient Futures Program is crafted to be a sanctuary of hope and opportunity. We understand the pivotal role single mothers play in shaping their children's futures and believe that, with support, they can rise above their circumstances.
Skill Development and Education: We aim to provide these young mothers with vocational training, equipping them with skills that enable self-reliance. From tailoring to agriculture, these skills can be their ticket to a sustainable livelihood.
Health and Wellness: Ensuring the health and wellbeing of both mother and child is paramount. Why Style & Beauty Academy?
In Uganda, over 70% of the population is under 25, with limited access to employment opportunities. Young women and mothers who drop out of school face even greater challenges, often trapped in cycles of poverty and economic exclusion. The Style & Beauty Academy was created to address this urgent need by providing free vocational training and entrepreneurial support, empowering these young women to achieve financial independence and transform their futures.
Our Approach
The Style & Beauty Academy provides a comprehensive, 6-month curriculum covering fashion design, tailoring, hairdressing, and business management. Participants not only gain practical skills but also receive essential starter kits and seed capital to launch their businesses. Our unique peer-to-peer model ensures that the impact of our program multiplies: every graduate is required to train four other young women, fostering a ripple effect of empowerment throughout their communities.

Mother's Milk Miracle!
At PSM Charity, we believe that a healthy start in life lays the foundation for a thriving future. That’s why, during Breastfeeding Awareness Month this August, we proudly launched our Breastfeeding and Nutrition Program as part of the Youthful Moms, Resilient Futures initiative.
Why We Introduced This Program
Imagine a community where every young mother feels empowered, knowledgeable, and supported in her journey of motherhood. Yet, for many young mothers, the reality is far from this vision. With little access to breastfeeding education and limited knowledge of proper nutrition, the health of both mothers and their babies is at risk. Our program was born out of the urgent need to address these challenges, providing mothers with the knowledge and resources to nourish and nurture the next generation.
What We Have Achieved So Far
Our program kicked off with an incredible impact, reaching 250 enthusiastic young mothers eager to learn and grow. Here’s what we accomplished together.
Empowering Education Sessions
Our team of dedicated healthcare professionals held engaging sessions that demystified the art of breastfeeding. Mothers learned techniques, benefits, and how breastfeeding shapes the lifelong health of their little ones. We turned learning into an empowering experience, equipping mothers with the confidence to embrace this natural and vital practice.
Personalized Nutritional Guidance
Nutrition isn’t one-size-fits-all, especially for breastfeeding mothers. We offered personalized nutritional counseling, tailored meal plans, and dietary advice to ensure mothers have the energy and strength to care for their babies. Mothers left our sessions inspired and equipped to nourish their families with wholesome and practical choices.
Providing Essential Support Materials
We understand that breastfeeding can be challenging, so we provided specialized creams, supportive bras, and other helpful accessories to make the journey more comfortable. These small yet powerful tools made a world of difference for our mothers, transforming discomfort into ease and ensuring a more joyful bonding experience with their infants.
Building a Supportive Community
Connection is key. Through interactive Q&A sessions, mothers shared their fears, received answers, and bonded over shared experiences. To keep this community spirit alive, we established a support group where mothers can continue to uplift each other long after our program ended.

While we are proud of the progress we’ve made, the need remains vast and pressing. Many more young mothers require our support to overcome the barriers they face. We aim to expand our reach, improve our resources, and make an even greater impact. Our vision is clear: a world where no mother feels alone and every baby gets the nourishing start they deserve.

Tackling Mental Health in Uganda
In Uganda, a silent mental health crisis affects 7.4% of the population with disorders like depression and anxiety. Despite its prevalence, cultural misconceptions and socioeconomic challenges often leave mental illnesses untreated.

Most of our beneficiaries live in desperate conditions, where mental health struggles significantly hinder their ability to nurture and develop their children.
